Outdoor Recreation
Fishing
Fishing is a less commonly referred to activity when speaking of Stone Mountain, but it is one of the best places to catch great fish. Fishing on Stone Mountain Lake is authorized daily from the hours of 6 AM to midnight. During daylight hours, private boats are also allowed on the lake. Stone Mountain Lake is an incredible spot in the metro Atlanta area to go fishing due to its abundance of fish and variety of types. The fish types found in the water of Stone Mountain Lake include bass, carp, crappie, catfish, and bream. The area around the lake features picnic spots, tables, and a pavilion for guests to escape the Georgia heat. While charter buses are not allowed to drop off right at the lake, there are some designated charter bus parking areas located across Stone Mountain Park property.
Hiking
One of the many natural amenities that Stone Mountain Park is known for is its hiking trails. Stone Mountain Park features six different hiking, biking, and walking trails for groups to choose from. These trails are well kept as they are preserved by Stone Mountain Park grounds crew members to ensure pleasure and safety for their guests. Perhaps the most popular trail is the Walk-Up Trail. The Walk Up Trail is a great trail to pick if your group is looking for a stunning view of not only the park but the overhead view of downtown Atlanta. The trails vary in difficulty levels and lengths. When planning your group’s next charter bus trip to Stone Mountain Park, be sure to refer to the trail section of the park’s website to determine which trail fits best for your group. The lists, maps, and descriptions of each trail can be found here.
Golfing
Stone Mountain Park is home to two widely popular golf courses in the Atlanta area; Stonemount Course and Lakemount Course. Each course is a full-sized, 18-hole, golfing course. Stonemount Course was developed in the late sixties and early seventies, and since then has become a premier course to host many professional and amateur golfing tournaments, events, and championships. Lakemount Course is known for its gorgeous scenic views, allowing golfers to enjoy the view of Stone Mountain Lake and several hiking trails located on the park property. Lakemount offers a bit of a challenge for golf enthusiasts as the course features nine holes with water to maneuver around.
