Host-Driver FAQs

Why Does Eagle Christian Tours Exist?

We exist to glorify God by serving people with the heart and mind of Christ.

Where is Eagle Christian Tours located?

We are located in Rome, GA – about halfway between Atlanta, GA and Chattanooga, TN.

I don’t live very close to Rome and am worried about early starts or late arrivals. How would that work?

While the average Host-Driver lives 50 miles from Eagle Christian Tours, we have found that the maximum reasonable commuting distance for this job is a 100 mile radius (or a 2 hour drive).  For Host-Drivers who live on the longer side of that commute, we offer a place to stay in our Host-Driver center (free of charge) before an early morning start or after a late night arrival.  The Host-Driver center includes private rooms which are climate controlled, private showers, a lounge area with television, and snacks.

What type of buses does Eagle Christian Tours operate?

We operate a fleet of 55 buses which include 45’ Prevost buses, 30’  Temsa buses, and Ford minibuses.

Where does Eagle Christian Tours go on trips?

We have driven in all of the lower 48 states and Canada – though many of our trips are based in the Southeast United States.

How long are the trips?

With 13,000 trips/year, there is a wide variety of guests and every trip depends on the group.  We have single day trips all the way to multi-week trips.  The average trip length is 3 days.

Do Host-Drivers have to pay for their hotel when on a trip?

No.  Hotel accommodations are taken care of on behalf of the Host-Driver.

What if a problem occurs while on a trip?

We always have two teammates on call 24/7 and ready to help our Host-Drivers if an after-hours emergency comes up.  Whether it’s a mechanical problem with a bus or something else, the Eagle team is always ready to support the Host-Drivers on the road.

What types of groups does Eagle Christian Tours serve?

We serve a wide variety of guests including college athletics, church groups, senior citizens, schools, weddings, and camps.

How often do Host-Drivers drive?

Eagle Christian Tours can commit 150 or 200 days of driving per year to full-time Host-Drivers, & 100 days of driving per year to part-time Host-Drivers. All Host-Drivers are allowed to drive additional days beyond their commitment if they wish.

What’s a typical day for a Host-Driver?
Since every guest has different itineraries, every trip is different at Eagle Christian Tours.  However, when we ran the data for our thousands of trips, an “average” day has 6 to 7 hours of drive time, 1 to 2 hours of on-duty time that is not driving, and about 4 hours of “down time.”  This down time is often waiting for the guest at their event (museum, sports game, dinner, etc).  While days may be longer or shorter depending on the length of trip, type of trip, or season, an average day for a Host-Driver is typically 10-12 hours.
How does the scheduling work for Host-Drivers?

Host-Drivers know their schedule 2+ weeks in advance.

How much is the pay? Does Eagle Christian Tours offer benefits?

The starting pay for a Host-Driver is $275/day.  This breaks down into a $205 base rate, combined with a $70 non-taxed per diem. Host-Drivers are also encouraged to graciously accept gratuities if they are offered by guestsWe do offer medical benefits, 401k employer contributions, PTO, etc for our full time Host-Drivers.

Are Host-Drivers allowed to bring friends or family along for trips?
No.  Only our paid guests and Eagle Christian Tours employees are allowed to ride on the bus during trips.
What are the license requirements for a Host-Driver?

A Host-Driver needs a Class B (or Class A) license with a Passenger and Air Brake Endorsement, as well as a DOT medical card that is classified as interstate and submitted on the MVR as “Non Excepted Interstate”.

Would Eagle Christian Tours help me get my license?

Yes.  If Eagle Christian Tours decides to extend an offer to someone without a Commercial Driver’s License, there would be an opportunity to attend Eagle’s Entry Level Driver Training course to get a CDL prior to becoming an employee at Eagle.

What kind of training does a Host-Driver receive?

Any new Host-Driver would go through a minimum of 11 days of training prior to their first trip.  This training is made up of classroom training, driving through a controlled course, and driving on the road.
